Austin Dog Alliance Pet Therapy Helpers

Location: Austin Dog Alliance, 12129 RR 620 North Suite 401, Austin
Description: The Austin Dog Alliance offers a pet therapy dog training class where dog owners can bring their dogs to train them to become pet therapy dogs.  The purpose of having children come to the class is to give the dog owners and their dogs some experience working with children.  Your children – with structured direction from staff at Austin Dog Alliance – will pet, read to, and play with the dogs.  Please note that during this activity parents typically wait in the lobby and watch their children rather than participate themselves.  As such, sign-ups are one spot per child.  We are looking for 6 children to join our group.

Caritas of Austin Community Kitchen/Pantry Help

Location: Caritas of Austin, 611 Neches St., Austin
Description: You and your child/children will help out in the Community Kitchen/Pantry at Caritas of Austin. Tasks may include assembling sandwiches or meal items to be served during lunch the following day, preparing individual rice/bean bags, or other assembly projects in support of Caritas programs and services. A great volunteer activity for children as young as 3 or 4. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about Caritas and how they support individuals and families experiencing poverty. We are looking for 3-4 families (10 individuals) to join us.

Description: Volunteers will fill bags with canned food items and place them in bins in preparation for the Thursday and Friday morning food distributions to clients of the Hope Food Pantry. We are looking for 2-3 families (8 individuals) to join our group.

Location: Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin
Description: You and your child/children will help prepare individual bags of dog food for distribution to low income or homeless pet owners for Animal Trustees of Austin. This is a great volunteer activity for children as young as 3 or 4. Learn more about Animal Trustees of Austin and how they support pet owners experiencing poverty. We’re looking for 2 – 4 families (10 individuals) to help out.

Location: Texas Baptist Children’s Home Campus, North Mays St. & E. Palm Valley Rd., Round Rock
Description: You and your child/children will help make and serve lunch for children staying in STARRY’s emergency shelter and/or foster care program and then spend some time afterward visiting and playing with the children. STARRY provides services to children, youth and families in crisis including counseling, foster care, and emergency shelter and homeless/runaway youth programs. We are looking for 2-4 families (8 individuals) to help out.
Time Frame:
11:30 am – 12:30 pm (make & serve lunch)
12:30 pm – 1:30 pm (fun & games – optional)

Description: Support homeless and impoverished individuals and families in the UT campus area by helping bag groceries after they shop for food and other basic needs items in the Micah 6 pantry. All supplies provided. This is a great activity for children ages 4 and up. For children 4-7 years of age, we recommend that one parent/adult  accompany each child. We are looking for 2-3 families (8 individuals) to join our group.

Location: Ronald McDonald House of Austin & Central Texas, 1315 Barbara Jordan Blvd., Austin
Description: You and your child/children will help make dinner for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Children learn/practice basic cooking skills in a group setting while at the same time supporting a great cause! Optional tour of the facility after the activity. We are looking for 3-4 families (10 individuals) to help out.
