Location: Ronald McDonald House of Austin & Central Texas, 1315 Barbara Jordan Blvd., Austin
Description: Children must be at least 8 years of age to participate. We recommend one parent/adult accompany each child. You and your child/children will help prepare food, set-up cooking stations, wash/dry dishes, and help out with other tasks in preparation for other family volunteers coming to make dinner for guests of the Ronald McDonald House later that afternoon. We are looking for 1-2 families (4 individuals) to help out as sous chefs!

Description: You and your child/children will help sort donations of new and recycled craft materials and/or help with other tasks in support of the Austin Children’s Museum. This is a great activity for children of all ages!  We are looking for 2-3 families (8 individuals) to join our group.

Location: Caritas of Austin, 611 Neches St., Austin
Description: You and your child/children will help out in the Community Kitchen/Pantry at Caritas of Austin. Tasks may include assembling sandwiches or meal items to be served during lunch the following day, preparing individual rice/bean bags, or other assembly projects in support of Caritas programs and services. A great volunteer activity for children as young as 3 or 4. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about Caritas and how they support individuals and families experiencing poverty. We are looking for 3-4 families (10 individuals) to join us.

Date: Sunday, May 20
Location: To be provided to registered volunteers the week of April 15.
Description: Make your mark on Austin! Come join us to help the City of Austin’s Watershed Department educate the public about pollution prevention by helping to place/replace markers on storm drains as a reminder to residents that rainfall runoff can wash soil, yard waste, fertilizer, motor oil, and other pollutants into our waterways. Learn how all of us can help prevent pollutants from ending up in our creeks. This activity involves walking around an Austin neighborhood so wear your comfortable shoes!  We’re looking for 3-5 families (12 spots available.)

Description: Come help maintain Little Helping Hands’ new garden plot at  Mayfield Park and Preserve. Tasks may include weeding, planting, mulching, watering and/o other garden maintenance tasks. We’re looking for 2-3 families (8 individuals) to help.

Goodwill GreenWorks Recycling Volunteers

Date: Saturday, May 19
Location: Goodwill Community Center, 1015 Norwood Park Blvd., Austin
Description: You and your child will help breakdown computers to resell and recycle in support of Goodwill’s job services and programs that connect Central Texans to meaningful employment. This is a fun, hands-on activity for children who like to take things apart and are curious about computers/electronics. Also a great opportunity to learn about joblessness and how organizations like Goodwill help individuals find, obtain, and retain jobs in our community. In addition, participants will have the opportunity spend some time in Goodwill’s Computer Museum that exhibits the chronological evolution of computer technology through educational displays and demonstrations. Two shifts available. We’re looking for 6-8 families (18 individuals) per shift to participate in this recycling activity. We recommend one parent/adult accompany each child, especially for younger children.
Time Frame:
1:00 pm – 2:30 pm (Shift 1)
2:30 pm – 4:00 pm (Shift 2)

Cleaning of Micah 6 Pantry

Location: University Presbyterian Church, 2203 San Antonio Street, Austin
Description: Spend part of your afternoon helping to clean the Micah 6 food pantry. Tasks include wiping down shelves and freezers/refrigerators, sweeping, and mopping. Learn how Micah 6 supports homeless and impoverished individuals and families in the UT campus area. All supplies provided. We’re looking for 3-4 families (12 individuals) to join our group.

Description: Help the City of Austin by participating in their Graffiti Abatement Program to beautify the city. You and your child/children will help remove graffiti. All supplies provided to paint over the graffiti. Please be prepared to get dirty and have fun! We’re looking for 3-4 families (10 individuals) to help out.
