Family Volunteer Day 2011
70 families and 110 children participated in 14 Little Helping Hands volunteer activities on Family Volunteer Day 2011.
Activities included:
- Cooking and serving breakfast to clients of Foundation Communities which provides affordable housing to low-income individuals and families.
- Picking up litter and weeding around trees over at Pease Park.
- Painting over graffiti for the City of Austin.
- Assembling grooming kits for children in need for Operation School Bell, a program of Assistance League Austin
- Making lunch and visiting with children at STARRY, an emergency children’s shelter.
- Tracing and cutting fabric to be used to make rag dolls for toy-making classes at AVANCE which provides education and family support services to predominantly Hispanic families in low-income, at-risk communities.
- Assembling Hope Totes, a program of For Every Child which provides a tote bag with 3 – 4 days worth of new, washed clothing, socks, underwear, pajamas and toiletries to children in emergency shelters and safe houses.
- Bagging groceries for clients of the Micah 6 pantry.
- Breaking down computers for recycling and reuse in support of Goodwill’s GreenWorks program.
- Boxing up bread and pastries for The Capital Area Food Bank.
- Helping out at the game booths during the Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week’s Family Festival supporting ECHO (Ending Community Homelessness Coalition).
- Making holiday cards for clients of H.A.N.D. (Helping the Aging, Needy and Disabled), a nonprofit that provides in-home attendant services to the elderly and disabled.
- Making holiday ornaments for Partnerships for Children which provides services to children under the care of Child Protective Services.
- Assembling and labeling individual bags of dog food/dog treats for clients of Animal Trustees of Austin.
